Africa is so varied and beautiful. Even the times of day create different feelings and emotions.
This typical “African Scene” really has the water and animals all placed as if on queue. There is calm in the middle of the day and this watering hole is just perfect.
Thank you for supporting the National Parks Guy, as I visit the wild spaces that we preserve for future generations.

There are so many gradients of colours and while shooting this I couldn’t believe how the blues graduated from loch to sky. It was amazing and equally pleasing to see it on a picture too.
There were some great times on the West Coast of Scotland and I will remember the memories very dearly.

This was taken off the shores on a small island off the shores of Scotland. The day was so calm and the water crisp and see through.
The greens in the wave really drew my attention, as the sea has so many colours at different times.

To see elephant in the wild is one of my most favorite past times. Their sense of time and their movement is not rushed nor frenetic. There is a peace that surrounds them.
This calf was grazing a few meters from his mother, and like all young elephants, will be brought up by the whole heard through to adulthood over many years.

As this male Double-Banded Sandgrouse looked up at me, it felt like it was trying on some hypnosis trick. It’s eyes circles, it feathers circles and its body circular.
Sitting watching this pair I could but help thinking about how their monogamous family relationship was like, doing everything together, wherever they were in the National Park.

If there one bird that looked like an eggshell, this would be it. The Female Double-Banded Sandgrouse. Mating for life, her and her spouse look for small seeds throughout the day, often with some family in tow, and at night, they head to the water. Always by each others side.
But this is one bird to show off the seasons best dress I think. Perfectly camouflaged against the rough terrain and almost invisible in the long grass.
Thanks you for supporting the National Parks Guy, and allowing me to share the beauty of the wildlife I experience with you.

This sunset just struck me as I was leaving the National Parks at the end of an amazing day. The sun seems to be falling from the sky with the cloud giving the illusion of great speed.
The end of the day always signals that time of night when the animals and birds get ready for either bed or some night time hunting. It is electric as the change over of shift happens.

Family is always special to see, and to witness this herd of Zebra was just brilliant. It was if they were each grouping into their family unit.
The mare on the far right is heavily pregnant too, which made this so much more special.

Some times even the guys like walking in heels… These Klipspringers make me smile. Living in and around rocks they have the ability to spring from on to another rock on slippery surfaces with ease.
They are small antelope and this male was part of a pair. He stood watch while she started grazing nearby. Team work!

The Kudu has long legs and huge ears that, just like a trumpet in reverse, allows this antelope to pick up the smallest of sounds.
Very shy, they often hide in the bush, almost undetected as they blend in with the surroundings so well. The male has huge antlers which look very impressive and a little white beard.

I think this is the ultimate caress. One Hammerkop affectionately caring for a his partner. How amazingly expressive and wonderful to see.
The Hammerkop is normally found near water, fishing, but this fine morning a gentle wake up and a cuddle were called for.

The African Fish Eagle is such an iconic sight for Africa. Sitting in the tree, surveying all that goes before it. A huge raptor weighing over 2kg, with specially adapted toes for gripping slippery objects – fish!
When I spotted this one, it was over looking a dam, early in the morning and it still had it’s ‘bed head’ on.

The Machair is a unique place in Scotland. One of a kind for habitat and for bird watching.
The summer is filled with migrating birds stopping for a drink and refuel, but it is also home to a most amazing landscape.
