Divjakë-karavasta National Park also known as Karavasta Lagoon lies 40km form Lushnjë and is an area of international importance protected by the Ramsar Convention due to the wetlands and the birds and mammals they are home too. The Lagoon, the largest in Albania, is cut off from the Adriatic Sea and has small sandy islands.
The Dalmatian Pelican and European (L. Lutra) Otter are two rare sightings worth keeping an eye out for. These are increasingly rare to see now as their habitats in Europe are reduced and pollution from pesticides threatens their existence.
There are places to eat here, although the odd Mosquito or two might dine out on you too, so go prepared! If you happen to spot either of these two species send me a photo so we can put it in the gallery.
