The Lake District National Park is aptly named as it holds some amazing lakes set into beautiful mountain landscapes of Cumbria. This is a magical land of winding roads and tree lined lakes, perfect for a drive around in the summer.
To give you an idea of how frequently visited this National Park is, it has over 23 million day visits a year! Now that is impressive. To be able to cope with that volume of people must be a sure indicator that the Lake District National Park is well managed and looked after. The National Trust owns about a Quarter of the park as well as the Forestry Commission, both well intentioned organisations.
Around half the park is uncultivated and has statutory open access rights to visitors, but there are plenty of paths and routes that are available too. There are plenty of activities to do here too. Boating, hillwalking and sightseeing to name a few, but don’t forget to take a ride on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway while you are here too. To hear the sound of the whistle and smell of the smoke, while you clickity clack across the beautiful land, will have you coming back for more.
**On the 1 August 2016, the Lake District National Park was extended by 6,993 ha to include some areas that were adjacent to the park but not included into the ‘official’ park.
