Arches National Park in United States of America
Videos | Gallery | Unexplored | Reviews
Arches National Park is located in Utah and has the highest number of natural sandstone arches in the world! Over 2000 of them! That should be enough to get your picture taken with one of them in the background. It is dry here though, so you won’t need wellys! Originally called National Monument it became a fully fledged National Park in 1971.
The scenery here is breath-taking. The arches left because of the salt basin that was initially dry out and the crushing weight of the sediment turned it to liquifed salt which oozed and created these amazing shapes. There is a concern about the number of people visiting this precious landscape at the moment due to the sensitive top layer on which over a million visitor walk each year. Take care where you tread!
It is worth noting that you are prohibitted from climbing on the arches due to their sensitive nature, but there are plenty of other places to climb while you are here. If you are into your dark skies you will certainly love visiting Arches National Park too. The dry desert like air allows for the crisp night air to give some stunning views of the night sky. So take a warm blanket, snuggle up and watch the universe unfold above you!
Apart from now world famous arches and locations there is also plenty of wildlife to look out for. If you see a Kangaroo rat, don’t scream. It’s not the size of a kangaroo! There are also cougar, mule deer and big horn sheep to name a few.
