Thayatal National Park is the second cross border National Park that Austria has. Situated in the Northern part of the country and joined with the Czech Národni park Podyjí National Park, the area is a haven for wildlife and a treasure for visitors. Not only is the National Park set in pristine woodland and has views over the river Thaya, but the town of Hardegg will offer some amazing opportunities to see some historical sites.
Expect to see the Black Stork, Wild Cat and over 950 different species of Butterflies in Thayatal National Park. Both continental and central Europe vegetation exist here due to the influence of the dry Pannonian Climate. As the two systems meets the variety of plant species will amaze and put on a show whatever time of year. You may even spot a Sea Eagle as a wintering guest here.
Thayatal National Park is a respectful and peaceful reserve and so adventure activities are restricted here. Hiking and walking is the main experience, but mountain bike or canoeing is really to be kept to designated routes. The emphasis here is on maintaining the environment and protecting what is so precious in this area and makes it the ideal National Park for a relaxing retreat.
