Gesaeuse National Park in Austria
Videos | Gallery | Unexplored | Stories
Gesaeuse National Park in Austria has pristine forests and a high alpine landscape. No vehicles are allowed in this National Park, but there are plenty of walking route and some very demanding ones. The gorge has been cut by the Enns river leaving huge mountains rising 1800m up into the sky beside you.
Within Gesaeuse National Park, the Enns river flows to an area of rapids that drop through the gorge 150m over 16km. Seeing the limestone reflected in the sunlight or the green trees against a snow cover landscape will melt anyone’s heart. This park is also very keen to ensure accessibility for most is achieved and go to great lengths to include people with wheelchairs.
The wildlife here include the familiar sounding Woodpeckers and Butterflies are abundant. Roe Deer, Red Fox and the Marmot can all be found here, but look out for the special mountain climber, the Chamois, as they run along steep inclines that may seem like an impossible task to an animal which has hoofs!
The Gesaeuse National Park website is very informative. The brochure (Gesaeuse National Park) explains what can and cannot be done in the park and is worth a read.
