Badlands National Park is located in South Dakota and is a small window into life 33 Million years ago. Not a literal portal, but this area is famous for its fossils. So much so that each year there are many visits by universities and scientists looking to understand life back then.
But you want to see it today, and the Badlands National Park offers a great variety of landscapes. The most impressive are the spires and pinnacles that have been eroded to form a landscape that is breathtaking. However, what many don’t know about the Badlands National Park is the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States of America.
The Badlands National Park extends to 98 240 ha of land, protected by the Badlands Wilderness in the North and jointly with the Oglala Lakota Tribe in the South. The name Badlands refers to the land being difficult to travel through due to extremes in temperature and landscape, and was recognised as a National Park in 1978.
The Badlands National Park is one where you are bound to see bison roaming around in herds, as they begin to recover from severe hunting earlier on. look out for Prairie Dogs and Bighorn sheep too when you visit.
