Canyonlands National Park in United States of America

Canyonlands National Park in the USA, near Moab has an arid desert environment, yet water has left for us the most memorable of landscapes to visit in this place. As the two rivers the Green and the Colorado have eroded their way through the soil, they have left a deep reminder that something so soft can cause so much change. (Pause for thought and move on…)
The Canyonlands National Park is also a stones throw Arches National Park, albeit vastly larger at 136 621 ha. This is the place for rafting for hiking and for a jaw dropping “Wow” to be uttered at the sheer size of the place.
It is broken up into 4 parts that can be visited, all in varying difficulty, which are the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the two rivers (mainly for rafters). As within all National Parks though there is the wildlife too, so if you are just about the landscape, be amazed but watch out for Black Bears, Bobcats and Coyotes. Look out to for one of the 270+ birds that can be found in the area. You will not be disappointed in seeing a Northern Harrier Hawk!
As far as activities go, well you are in the heart of fantastic scenery, so remember the batteries for the camera, and some binoculars, but lets be serious here, you wanted to feel the water, here the rush and echo of the rapids as you wander down the rivers through canyons so large that you cannot but be in awe. Have a mountain bike? Then take it for a spin out here. I cannot guarantee you won’t have to get off every once in a while to catch your breath though.
There are no bridges in the park, so travel times between destinations should be planned and if you have a 4×4, there are roads for you to play on too. Remember to get your day-pass for the White Rim road before you set off too. Enjoy yourself and tell us about your adventure below!
